If I add a bathroom, will it increase the value of my home?
The short answer is “yes”. Again, as with square footage, you have to ascertain the functionality of the bathroom with respect to its type and location.
An example would be putting an opulent bathroom in the basement where there is no bedroom. This would not provide the same return as putting that same bathroom next to the master bedroom.
The important thing with bathroom additions and renovations, as with any improvements you make in your home, is to ensure that the work done is of quality and that the workmanship is professional. An “amateurishly” renovated or installed bathroom will actually detract from the value of the home.
